| Welcome to the Harvard Club of Birmingham. We have an active club, and our new officers hope to expand that activity. If you live in north Alabama, we hope that you will consider joining our Club. Please take a look at our current officers. We represent a broad range of graduates from Harvard College and Harvard graduate schools. Many of us are undergraduate alumni, but there are also active members who took degrees from the medical school, the business school, the law school, the graduate school of arts and sciences, the divinity school and other programs at Harvard. This year we hope to establish regular, quarterly programs. In addition, we will host an event for newly admitted students to Harvard College, and will host an event in the summer of 2008 for current undergraduates as well as newly admitted students and their parents. Every year we have a joint event with the Yale Club to watch the Harvard/Yale football game in November. In addition, we have an annual lunch program in December and invite current undergraduates who are home for the holidays. This year, we have started new programs: We have begun to develop a "Stop the Brain Drain" program that will encourage current undergraduates to seek jobs in the Birmingham area. Over the next several months, we hope to encourage several different businesses in Birmingham to participate in hiring at least one Harvard student as part of its summer hiring program. Our alumni have organized "Harvard Hours," which is held on third Thursday of the month, and those details are available on the Events page. We have two upcoming Harvard Hours scheduled that will feature an evening at a local art gallery and an evening touring a local rose garden. For more information, contact Catherine Crowe at catherinepcrowe@googlemail.com. The most active group of the Club is our Schools and Scholarships Committee, which is chaired by Zandy Moyo (zmoyo@sbcglobal.net) and co-chaired by Dylan Black (dblack@bradleyarant.com). The Schools & Scholarships Committee, in concert with the Harvard College Admission Office, promotes Harvard College to local high school seniors in north Alabama. Most important, the members of this committee interview every applicant to Harvard from north Alabama. Through that process, the Schools & Scholarships Committee meets several times between December and February, mostly on Saturday mornings, and conducts interviews with enthusiastic, energetic and talented high school seniors. It is a fun and energizing experience for all. If you are a Harvard alumnus in our area, we hope that you will consider joing our Club. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the officers of our Club if you have any questions. Very truly yours, Gregory H.
