Club Newsletters 2009 - January, March, May, July, September Club Newsletters 2008 - January, March, May, July, September, November Club Newsletters 2007 - January, March, May, July, September, November Maintain your ties to Harvard by re-joining or joining the Harvard Club of the United Kingdom. Fall is membership renewal time and the Club accepts payment online, by cheque or by standing order. Details are on the Join the Club page. We are one of the largest international clubs with almost 5,000 alumni living throughout the UK for whom we provide an umbrella organisation with more than 750 members. If you have been an active member in the past you know the wonderful array of events that have been at the heart of the club, more than 150 in total offered to members last year. Our social calendar is tied to these annual events: THE Game Live! telecast,The John Harvard Dinner at Emmanuel College, Cambridge and The John Harvard Lecture (former speakers have included: Caspar Weinberger, Jim Watson, Sir George Solti, Helen Suzman, John Kenneth Galbraith and the Rt. Hon. William Hague, MP). More frequent events are the Quarterly Drinks Night for younger alums, the Business Technology Forum and the Anglo-American Politics Forum that occur throughout the year. The Club participates with the Princeton and Yale Clubs in the HYP Dinner/Talk Series with many interesting speakers on a monthly basis. It also shares events with other US college and university clubs (e.g., All Ivy Cocktail Reception, Annual Thanksgiving Dinner). We send a fortnightly e-mail notice for our members to keep them apprised of our own events and those of other clubs and organizations. This includes a bulletin board where members only can post job enquiries, job openings, items for sale, etc. Club members booking holidays may be interested in the special offer described on the News page. The Harvard Club exists also to serve Harvard and its alumni throughout the UK. Our core area of activity in this regard is our Outreach Programme, which is responsible for recruiting and interviewing all UK applicants to Harvard College, and assisting secondary schools in accessing information about the Harvard admissions process. HCUK Outreach is an active and vital part of the Club and welcomes members who would like to be involved in interviewing, schools visits and outreach work. Admissions. There is a wealth of information about applying to Harvard from the UK at our Admissions Website. Internship Programme. The Club collaborates with Harvard's Center for European Studies to offer students a wide range of professional work environments and to connect alumni based in the U.K. with Harvard students who are eager to hit the ground running. (Programme Description) CES and the Club are the supporting structures to a trans-Atlantic bridge. Under the auspices of the summer internship programme they bring together student and employer in a relationship that can have a profound impact on both. (Application Form) We are always looking for new suggestions for events and ways in which the club can be of greater value to its members. We would love to have you become involved and join us in a continuing Harvard experience. Members wishing to be particularly active and serve on any of the committees running the club should contact me. You will find it not terribly time consuming and very rewarding. In particular, we would like to encourage the participation of more graduate school alumni/ae. Membership includes a free subscription to Harvard Magazine (a $75 value by itself for overseas subscriptions) with our bi-monthly club mailings and associate membership in the English Speaking Union in Mayfair, London. In addition, members are able to attend events organized by Harvard clubs around the world as the Harvard Club of the UK is a member of the HAA Global Pass program. Incidentally, for anyone who is resident in the UK for tax purposes, we would like to bring to your attention an easy way to make a donation to Harvard University under the Gift Aid scheme. This is administered by Just Giving and details are at Friends of Harvard. We look forward to welcoming you at one of our future events and/or hearing of your interest in becoming involved in the club's activities.
