Dear Harvard alums,
I hope this letter finds you well. The Officers and Board Members of the Harvard Club of Louisville invite you to be a member of the Club in 2006-2007. This year promises to be better than ever with the continuation of our Ivy Forum Lunch Speakers series and other events, covering a wide range of interests for people of all ages as well as families of all sizes.
The Board members and officers have been a big part of the rejuvenation of this club in the last four years and I would like to personally thank them for their time and effort. Alexandra Thurstone remains as the vice president and will take over the schools committee from Sid Anderson. Sid has taken on the Harvard Book Prize Program. Larry Gettleman remains as treasurer of the Club. Joel Coleman chairs the membership committee. Last year we added two new members to our Board, the Honorable Ron Mazzoli and Kevin Lynch. Duane Murner, Kendrick Wells, Steve Kersey and David Beckman round out the Board.
Upcoming programs and events:
* Four (4) Ivy Forum Luncheon Series guest speakers throughout the fall and upcoming spring. Dates and speakers to be announced in the near future.
* The Harvard-Yale football game will be played November 18, 2006 and we will again join with the Yale alumni club to show it live at Jillian’s.
* The holiday reception, for club members, current students and applicants admitted through the Early Action program, will be held in late December 2006.
* Annual Dinner with Harvard Professor as guest speaker, March 2007.
* Reception for Early Action and Regular Action admits, spring 2008.
* Day at the Downs, spring 2007.
* Louisville Bats Baseball Game, summer 2006 and 2007.
Over that last couple of years, we have steadily increased our dues paying membership from 60 members to nearly 100 members. The increased membership has made expanding our programs and events more possible but does not nearly reach our potential. This letter will go out to nearly 500 Kentuckians who have a connection to Harvard College, graduate schools and the extension schools. Your participation and involvement in this group will not only help us put on better programs and events, but will expand what we can do for our local kids at Harvard before, during and after their Harvard experience. As you can see, only 1 out 5 receiving this letter has joined in the past as a dues paying member. I hope that we can increase that number significantly this year.
A membership application is included in this web site. We hope you will join. Please indicate whether you would like to serve on one of the club’s committees, interview Harvard applicants or present a book award. If there are other events or activities that you would like us to undertake, or if you know of any Harvard grads in the area you think are not on our list, please let me know. You can e-mail or call me at dsonatty@600westmain.com or (502) 540-1211.
Take care and hope to see you soon.
Very truly yours,
David W. Son
President
